What is Benadryl?

Benadryl is an antihistamine. Diphenhydramine blocks the effects of naturally occurring histamine chemicals in the body.

Benadryl is used to treat sneezing; cold; itching, watery eyes; urticaria; rash; pruritus; and other symptoms of allergies and colds.

Benadryl is also used to suppress cough, to treat motion sickness, to induce sleep, and to treat a mild form of Parkinson’s disease.

Be careful when driving, working on production equipment or performing other hazardous activities. Benadryl may cause dizziness or drowsiness.

How to use?

Wash down each dose of medicine with a full glass of water. Benadryl can be taken before, after or during meals.

  • When treating motion sickness, the dose is usually taken 30 minutes before moving, and then during meals and before bedtime for prolonged exposure.
  • As a sleeping pill, Benadryl should be taken about 30 minutes before bedtime.
